Workshops at ICS '99

Workshop 3:

Software Distributed Shared Memory

1st Workshop on Software Distributed Shared Memory

http://www.cs.umd.edu/~keleher/wsdsm99/
WSDSM'99

to be held in Rhodes, Greece, June 25, 1999 in conjunction with the 1999 ACM International Conference on Supercomputing ICS'99

Workshop proceedings to be published by the ICS organization

THEME

During the last few years, research on consistency models, protocols and applications has allowed the software DSM field to become relatively mature. At the same time, general-purpose networks and communication packages have advanced to the point where clusters of workstations can be coupled almost as closely as hardware multi-processors.

The theme of this workshop, then, will be an attempt to answer the following two related questions:
What remains to be done in DSM?
and more to the point:
Will DSM ever move into the mainstream?

To this end, we solicit abstracts of original DSM research including, but not limited to, the following areas:

applications
clusters of multiprocessors
compiler support
DSM and real-world applications
fault tolerance
hardware support
memory models
multi-threading
online adaptation
performance/debugging tools
IMPORTANT DATES
Submission: 15 April 1999
Notification of acceptance: 30 April 1999
Camera-ready copies: 15 May 1999

SUBMISSION DETAILS

All submissions must be in the form of extended abstracts whose length --- including abstract, figures, bibliographies, and appendices --- does not exceed 4 US letter (8.5" x 11"; no A4 please) pages; papers longer than 4 pages will be summarily rejected.  Text must be set in no smaller than a 10 pt font, be single-spaced and single-columned, and include page numbers. Each paper will be reviewed by the program chairs.

Full versions of accepted papers will be published separately from the ICS'99 Proceedings and will be available at the conference site. The workshop proceedings will be published as an ACM ICS'99 volumes (bearing the ACM logo).

Papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format. It is essential that they print without difficulty on a variety of printers using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Therefore, be sure that you have included any special fonts that you use, etc. It is the absolute responsibility of the authors to ensure that the submitted papers will print easily.  The corresponding author is requested to include at the start of the message containing the paper:

Email your submission to wsdsm@cs.umd.edu. Receipt of submissions will be promptly acknowledged.  Late submissions will not be accepted; sorry, no exceptions. In cases where electronic submission is not possible, please contact one of the program chairs (see below).
